Worried by the wastage of properties and spaces in Lagos State in the face of a rising population, a first-class monarch in the state the Oniru of Iruland, Oba AbdulWasiu Gbolahan Lawal called for a compact, coordinated and connected Lagos.
The highly revered monarch said that the state must continue to look for ways to make life easy for the residents with decision that would not only guarantee adequate infrastructures but also ensure a smart City where work and living will be made easier for the residents in spite of limited landmass.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Channel Apartments located in Victoria Island, Oba Lawal said that the state needs a governor who can think out the side box and come up with policy that will fast development in the state in spite of the obvious challenges of a sprawling smart city kike Lagos.
The highly revered monarch, who commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for thinking outside the box, said that he was happy that the Governor’s vision for housing was in tandem with his vision to make Lagos compact and smart for the residents. He said the governor’s giant strides in the housing and other sectors are commendable, urging residents to return him for another term through their votes.
The revered monarch said that Lagos has a very small landmass, hence, there’s need for the state to always convert any available space or inactive property to good use for the hundreds of residents who are in need of housing. He said the state can always explore the opportunity to make the state liveable for millions residents in spite of the growing population in the.
Oniru said: “The is the reason I have always been advocating for a compact, coordinated and connected Lagos. With that, we will be able to reduce the travel time and increase on our productivities. We will also be able to do a whole lot. Let’s add value to the projects that seems to have been forgotten in order to make Lagos compact, coordinated and more connected for the people to live”.
On his part, Governor Sanwo-Olu said that
before the end of the year his administration will handover hundreds of flats to the residents.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also assured Lagosians that his administration would continue to take decisions and embark on policies that will make Lagos liveable for every resident, irrespective of their tribes, ethnic and other differences.
The governor said: “We are not just building, we will ensure that we build affordable housing for different strata for the residents. from the low bud to the medium budget with beautiful apartments like this in the heart of Victoria Island. as you purse this housing you are pursuing urban renewal. We are building in Epe, surulere, Ikorodu, badagry, ilupeju ikota.”
The governor said that as Lagos continues to remain home to over 3 million people and the number is growing on a daily basis, the state government would rigorously continue to purse housing agenda, and a comprehensive urban renewal.
“I want to assure you that our doors are open for the private sector players in all facets of life – road construction, housing, among others. the title document will be delivered before the end of the year,” Sanwo-Olu assured.
