Sanwo-Olu bags Housing Friendly Governor of the Year


For ensuring that more Lagosians become landlords through affordable housing scheme, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State yesterday bagged the Housing Friendly Governor of the Year award.

 The governor received the award at the 15th Abuja International Housing Show held at International Conference Centre in Abuja FCT, where he was described as a governor with dogged commitment towards regulating the real estate sub-sector with the establishment of Lagos State Real Estate regulatory Authority (LASRERA).

Presenting the award, the Minister of State for Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, said that Sanwo-Olu’s giant strides in housing sector had helped in reducing the challenges faced by home seekers and protected vulnerable citizens from the fraudulent activities of unscrupulous agents.

Also speaking ,Mr. Festus Adebayo, who spoke on behalf of the organisers,  said Sanwo-Olu’s impact in the housing policies sector has clearly shown an in-depth understanding of the  peculiar challenges faced by the citizenry in terms of affordable and accessible Housing.

He said: “The Governor of Lagos State has made positive impacts in the area of Housing development by initiating and implementing Housing policies that clearly show an in-depth understanding of the peculiar challenges faced by the citizenry in terms of affordable and accessible Housing.”

Responding, Governor Sanwo-Olu, said the recognition would further urge the State Government to charge forward in its avowed task of reducing the barriers to safe, decent and affordable housing for the people of Lagos State.

The governor, who was represented at the event by the state’s Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, thanked the organizers , describing the recognition as a reward of hard work which will in turn, drive his administration to strive for more peoples’ friendly policies.

Present at the event were the  Honourable Minister for Housing, Republic of Ghana, Hon. (Dr.) Freda Prempe; Honourable Minister of Environment,  Dr. Mahmoud Abubakar; the representatives of the Governors of Borno and Yobe States, Presidents of various professional associations in the Built Sector as well as other stakeholders.
