Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday reiterated his commitment to ensuring speedy completion of all ongoing road rehabilitation and re-construction projects in Ikorodu axis.

Speaking during the inspection of the project,  the governor, who was accompanied by some members of the State House of Assembly, said the speedy completion of the entire project was necessary  ahead of the fast approaching seasonal rains.

Some of the projects include: Ijede – Ewu Elepe, Oba Sekunmade and other roads in Ikorodu as promised. Other major ongoing road rehabilitation projects inspected were the Igbgogbo Bola Ahmed Tinubu  – Igbe road and the Owutu Agric Isawo road in Ikorodu.

The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs. Aramide Adeyoye, an engineer, assured residents that the scope and specifications for the projects remain unaltered, especially Oba Sekunmade Road, which is a strategic link to Ebute Jetty and the Ipakodo Lighter Terminal promoting multi-modal transportation and a major boost to the national economy.

He said construction work on the road was advancing at a commendable speed because of the commitment of the State Government to ease the traffic challenges along that corridor and make the road available for both commuters and pedestrians plying it.

Also speaking at the 6.1km long Ijede road, the governor reiterated the administration’s plan  to ensure prompt completion of the road before the rains while encouraging the contractors to give their best to ensure speedy completion of the projects. He appealed to the residents to show more understanding during the temporary inconveniences as a result of the road construction works.

The  completion of the projects, he said, will improve road connectivity, facilitate better traffic flow, reduce travel time and greatly improve the health of residents as well as enhance the value of properties in the area.

On his part, the Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency 1, Sinai Agunbiade emphasized the importance of the road, describing it as the only alternative road that links Ikorodu town to Lagos-Ikorodu road connecting about 20 communities in Ikorodu Division.

He also expressed satisfaction at the pace and quality of the job, “I am really impressed at the progress of work done and the quality of supervision and monitoring by the team from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure,” he said.

Aro of Ipakodo, Chief Julius Shonubi  who expressed delight at seeing the project taking shape, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the unwavering commitment to the delivery of his electoral promise. He added that effective supervision by the Ministry of Works and Infrastricture contributed no small measure to the progress recorded on the projects.

Baale of Ogolonto, Chief Yekini Fatola implored the contractors to deliver on the drainage outfall sections before the rains in order to prevent previous seasonal flash flooding experienced by communities along the road.
