A fuji musician apparently disrespecting the Olúwòó of Ìwó, a paramount traditional Yorùbá king with a rich cultural heritage.
One can blame the Fuji maestro for asperity, disrespect and the rudeness of his interaction with the traditional ruler. He ought to know better.
But I saw so many things else in the video, that can explain the disrespectful behaviour of the Fuji musician.
Wasiu Ayinde the Fuji dude, saw the G-wagon Mercedes, he recognized it as the vehicle of Oba Saheed Ademola Ẹlẹ́gùshì, Ẹlẹ́gùshì of the Ikate-Elegushi, who was sitting at the back seat (in Nigeria, that’s the owner’s corner).
Wasiu Ayinde was very respectful of the Ẹlẹ́gùshì, you can see him hailing, praising the Ẹlẹ́gùshì king from a far, with prostration, then he spotted the person sitting in front of the vehicle with the driver, the Olúwòó of Ìwó kingdom, then the Fuji man stretched out his hand to Olúwòó, to touch him on the shoulders, to accuse him of not inviting him to sing at the Ceremony in which the Olúwòó was conferring a title on someone.
Now, let me explain that age is a thing of respect in Yorùbá land.
Wasiu Ayinde is 64 years old
Olúwòó Ràsídì Àkànbí is 54 years old
Ẹlẹ́gùshì Saheed Adémọ́lá is 45 years old
In Yorùbá traditional institutions hierarchy
The Olúwòó is occupying one of the highest thrones in Yorùbá culture
The Ẹlẹ́gùshì is occupying a throne that is far far less than that of Olúwòó, in fact, it is just a small Chief who had profitable lands. Average Yorùbá person could not have heard of him, 3 decades ago, Former governor of Lagos state, Tinubu, elevated that small stool for economic and political reasons.
Let me say it sadly again, Ràsídì Àkànbí is a disgrace to the royal throne of the ancient Yorùbá city of Ìwó.
The beggar Fuji musician knows that, like many of us.
Some may say it is because Ẹlẹ́gùshì is richer than Olúwòó, but i don’t think so, Ràsídì Àkànbí just lacked sense of self-esteem and self worth.
There are many young modern Yorùbá Kings whose behaviour on the throne, daily respect their thrones, Ràsídì Àkànbí has always been a disgrace to that throne and one thought that he will grow up but we are wrong.
Don’t blame Wasiu Ayinde, he knows that Ràsídì Àkànbí does stuffs that are not worthy of his respect
Response from another person
I saw all of them prostrating for Elegushi. Before he stretched out his hands to them from the car. Olúwòó was sitting in the front, in Nigeria, that isn’t where you will find a King, he should have been in his own car.
Check out the body language of Olúwòó himself, he’s cowering in shame, he was trying to hide his face away from Wasiu, this is telling, that it’s not the first time.
Olúwòó has a catalogue of how not to behave as a Yorùbá King.
He has this tendency of belittling that throne. I can probably write a long story about it from day one of his kingship.
It is a little bit personal for me, i am not from Ìwó but I happened to be close to the immediate late king of Ìwó, Ọba Tádéṣe, who was an embodiment of royalty, intelligence and traditional gait. That’s where i am coming from and why Ràsídì Àkànbí is annoying to someone like me.
I even knew him before he became the Olúwòó, trust me, i have been cautioned by my respect for the Ìwó people, i have more to say about that dude
