Breaking!!! Panic as Electrical Transmission Tower Collapses in Lagos

… destroys vehicles, properties…NEMA warns residents, motorist on safety


Residents and motorists in Igando, Idimu and their environs are currently panicky as Electrical Transmission Tower popularly known as ‘high tension’ cables and towers from Egbin Hydro Power Station collapsed on their properties, destroying several vehicles and left them endangered.

The transmission tower also known as a power tower, or electricity pylon is a tall structure used to support an overhead power line. In electrical grids, they are used to carry high voltage transmission lines that transport bulk electric power from generating stations to electrical substations.


The Story gathered that the high tension cable  from Egbin Power Plant, Ikorodu which supplies electricity to Ikeja West, caved in suddenly and fell across the major roads on the axis.


Vehicles parked were not spared just as buildings, shanties located under the high tension cables in the densely populated areas as the high tension towers and their cables destroyed them.


Areas mostly affected include: Powerline bus stop, LASU/Isheri Road and other environs. As at the time of filing this report, only the National Emergency Management Authority officials were on ground to manage the emergency situation.
NEMA also appealed to the residents to be safety concious and observe every precaution to avert  destruction of life and more properties.
Confirming the development, the southwest Co-ordinator of the  NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, said that the 330 line from Egbin Power Plant, ikorodu. Supplies electricity to Ikeja West.

He advised residents of the axis to observe serious safety precautions due to the collapse of high tension poles that emanated from Eghin Hydro power station.
The NEMA boss said that Power Service agencies especially Ikeja Electric Distribution Company and other were currently trying to isolate the 330 Line for safety reasons.”


 Farinloye said:” Residents of Igando, Idimu Axis are strongly advised to observe serious safety precautions due to the collapse of high tension poles that emanated from Egbin Hydro power station. The line came in from Ikorodu across Ikeja and other areas.Fire service have been mobilised to provide eagle in case of fire outbreak.Power Service agencies especially Ikeja Electric Distribution Company and other are trying to isolate the 330 Line for safety reasons”
