Collapsed Building: Unidentified victims’ bodies to undergo DNA test,says LASG

The Lagos State government yesterday said that unidentified bodies of victims of the collapsed building would be subjected to DNA tests to with a view to ensuring that bodies are released to a right family.

The government also confirmed that 38 dead bodies were  recovered from the rubble of the collapsed building with nine survivors.

Speaking when he led members of the state executive council to the scene of the collapsed incident, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, said some of the  bodies were ready for identification at Infectious Disease Hospital Yaba. He added that people could start going  to the hospital from 4pm on Friday to see the bodies of their lives ones recovered from the ill-fated structure.

Omotoso said: “Now, we have recovered 38 bodies and as we know that we have nine survivors. And some of the bodies are ready for identification. People can go to the IDH Yaba from 4 pm today to identify the bodies of their loved ones that were recovered.”

 The commissioner, however noted that some bodies were difficult to identity, adding that to ascertain their identity, they might be subjected to a DNA test before decision would betaken.

“But for the bodies that are difficult to identify, we are going to be conducting DNA tests on them to aid their identification,” he added.

He assured that efforts to manage the incident would continue,adding that some of thosei inthe hospital has been discharged while some are recuperating.

“And I want to tell you that the operation continues. And do not forget that yesterday, Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu told everyone that one of the patient was taken to LASUTH. the patient has been returned to the general hospital and he is doing well,” he said.
