As Nigerians continue to hope for a better economy and improved living standard, the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Gbolahan Lawal, Ojora of Ijoraland, Oba Fatahi Aromire and other monarchs in the state have prayed for peaceful existence of residents and the prosperity of Nigeria and Lagos State in particular.
They offered the prayers during the2022  Ejiwa Elegba festival, held at Iru Kingdom, describing the festival as an opportunity for the sons and daughters of Olofin home and abroad to celebrate their fore-bearers in times past.

Speaking on the significance of the festival, Oba Lawal, said that the situation in the country calls for prayers of all and sundry. He said that Ejiwa Elegba Festival offers the sons and daughters of Iruland and other communities on the island to witness and celebrate their ancestors’ culture, tradition and knowledge.
Oba Oniru said that there is need for Nigerians, especially Lagosians to continue to pray and work for peace for the state and the nation to be prosperous. He added that with prayers, all the challenges confronting the nation and indeed the citizens could be a thing of the past.
Oba Aromire said: “As the custodian of our rich heritage, culture, and tradition, I congratulate sons, daughters and residents of Iruland on Ejiwa Elegba Iru festival 2022. The 7-day long festival began on Monday, 14th March to Sunday, 20th March 2022.  I wish them many more moments of celebration and unending victory.”

Oniru described the celebration of a week-long festival as parts of his vision to grow the Iruland, adding that celebration of the rich African tradition would not only promote tourism but also help to preserve the African heritage.Oba Lawal said the festival is symbolic because it is a time set aside annually to offer prayers for peace and prosperity for Iru kingdom and her indigenes, the state, and the nation at large.

The monarch, however used the occasion to call on all the sons and daughters of the kingdom to join hands with him in taking Iruland to the greater heights, adding that though his development agenda titled: “LEGIT”( Let’s Grow Iruland Together), the kingdom has witnessed tremendous progress in less than two years that he ascended the throne of his forebearers.
On his part, Oba Aromire said the residents of Iru Kingdom are lucky to have the calibre of Oba Lawal as their monarch, commending the Ona Lawal for the giant strides his kingdom is making to move the Iruland forward in spite of the economic situation in the country.
