Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo- Olu on Education, Tokunbo Wahab has urged Nigerians to ensure the sustenance of democracy and good governance by electing
only credible and trusted politicians with track records of achievements.
Speaking with newsmen on the state of the nation and the 2023 general elections, the Special Adviser said that for the nation to continue to enjoy stable democracy and good governance, everyone has a role to play. He said that citizens must ensure that only the trusted politicians are elected into office, while the electoral umpire, INEC must ensure free and fair polls.
According to him, the hallmark of democracy is credible polls and good governance, urging Nigerians to consider the experience, past records, and competency of candidates before casting their votes in the 2023 elections.
The Special Adviser who described the All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as one of such leaders that the nation needed at this critical time, noted that the blue print that Tinubu left since when he was the governor of Lagos State had remained the template that successive administrations in the state have been used to achieve good governance.
Wahab specifically noted that the economic blueprint handed down by the Tinubu administration in 2007 was the best and fastest economic transformation policy document anywhere in the world, adding that the strategy had not only re-positioned the state to become the economic nerves center of the country, but the 5th largest economy in the whole of Africa.
While expressing optimism that the nation would witness more and more rapid transformations under Tinubu government if voted into power, Wahab stated that the APC presidential candidate was the most qualified and prepared among other contestants jostling for the job, adding that Asiwaju was the only candidate that had traversed across all the nation’s geo-political zones apart from being a leader that had developed and built a generation of leaders across the country,.
He said: “Tell me, other leaders, either dead or living in Nigeria today with such credentials as Asiwaju, he is an enigma and the nation needs his high intellectual capacity, political experience, and administrative excellence to grow fast.
“I can tell you for free if you ask Asiwaju to submit the list of his proposed cabinet members today, he will give you within a seconds and the list will comprise people of good integrity with proven track records of excellence, with Asiwaju, you don’t need to come from the West, North, or South or have any godfather before you are considered for a post that you are qualified. He is the most detribalized Nigerian with biases for competency, excellence, and results at all times.”
While wishing Lagosians a more prosperous new year ahead, the Special Adviser urged the residents to re-elect governor Sanwo- Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat for their second term in office to allow them complete various ongoing reforms and infrastructure development projects are visible across the State.
While noting that the combination of the two technocrat governor and his deputy was the best thing to happen to Lagos State in recent times, the Special Adviser stated that governance in a State of well over 20 million people is better managed by tested and trusted experts and not toddlers
He noted that various reforms and initiatives introduced by the Sanwo –Olu administration had redefined governance and brought democracy dividends to the doorstep of a common man, urging Lagosians to go out in large numbers and collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and vote for credible leaders, committed to a ‘Greater Lagos project.
